Sarah Virginia Shanley née Browning, 99, passed away Tuesday, September 20, 2016 in Cary, NC. She was born September 24, 1916 in Grand Rapids, MI to the late George and Mary S. née McGivern Browning.
Virginia is survived by her children Robert (Mary), Michael (Gurprasad), John (Cindy) and Kathleen (James) Murray; 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Robert L. Shanley and their son Thomas P. Shanley. She spent her childhood growing up in Wilmette, IL, graduated from New Trier High School and attended Northwestern University.
She was devoted to her family and was an avid golfer and bridge player.
Bob and Virginia raised their family in Mt. Prospect, IL and were charter members of St. Raymond de Penafort Catholic Church.
Visitation and Mass in celebration of her life is Saturday, September 24, 2016, at St. Raymond de Penafort on Elmhurst Rd. (Rt 83) at Lincoln Street in Mt. Prospect.
Visitation is at 9:00 a.m. with Mass following at 10:00 a.m.
Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Evanston.
